How much do solar panels cost in the UK?

The honest answer is a range, because a solar quote is really three quotes in one: the panels, the installation, and the optional battery. This guide sets out realistic UK figures so you can budget before anyone visits your roof.
Typical installed prices
- Around 3.5 to 4kWp (a typical 3-bed home): roughly £5,000 to £8,000 installed
- Larger family homes (5 to 6kWp+): roughly £7,000 to £11,000
- Battery storage: typically an extra £2,000 to £5,000 depending on capacity

0% VAT until 31 March 2027. Qualifying domestic solar installations attract 0% VAT under HMRC's energy-saving materials relief, which has also covered home batteries since 1 February 2024. What actually drives the price
- System size: more panels cost more but usually lower the cost per kWp
- Roof and access: scaffold requirements, roof pitch, tiles vs slate
- Battery: the biggest single option, and often the difference between exporting cheaply and using your own power in the evening
