How solar works
Sunlight in, lower bills out
Solar photovoltaic panels convert sunlight directly into electricity. Sunlight hits the cells, the cells generate direct current, and an inverter converts it into the alternating current your home uses. Use it immediately, store it, or export it to the grid.
Why add a battery
Without a battery, excess solar power is usually exported. With one, that surplus is stored and used later, so you rely less on expensive grid electricity during evenings and cloudy spells. Smart batteries can also charge at cheaper off-peak rates and discharge during peak times. Home battery storage qualifies for 0% VAT too, a relief HMRC extended to batteries from 1 February 2024.
Independence and backup
Batteries increase the proportion of solar energy you actually use, improving your return on investment. Some systems can provide limited backup power during outages, and smart batteries can take part in grid services, helping balance supply and demand.

It depends on the size of the array, the battery you choose and the roof. Qualifying domestic installations attract 0% VAT until 31 March 2027 under HMRC's energy-saving materials relief, and you can spread the cost with 0% interest free credit for 12 months or a finance package. Paid for what you export

Warranties up to 30 years
Manufacturer warranties of up to 30 years apply on qualifying panels, and our UK-made hardware options carry a 15-year manufacturer warranty. This is our own commitment: the exact cover for your hardware is named in your written quote and registered at handover.
Three to four days on site
A typical home installation runs over three to four days, scaffold up to scaffold down, based on how our own in-house team programmes the work. The programme for your install is confirmed in your quote.
Certified installation
Solar and battery systems are designed and fitted by our own MCS registered installers and NICEIC-approved electricians, and every certified product we fit is listed on the MCS product directory. Certification is provided with every installation.
